The following is an homage to Katsuhiro Otomo and his seminal work AKIRA. What started as a 2-inch sketch over the 4th of July holiday became the first piece of conceptual artwork that I have ever created since becoming a professional almost 15 years ago that could be categorized as fan art. It was an immense pleasure to play within Mr. Otomo’s sandbox even if just for a couple of days. What became clear to me with this visual exercise is that no one can do AKIRA as well as Mr. Otomo. Whit that said, I do hope this slightly modern take on the Akira visual style will please fans.
